Self-Drilling Screws
These screws eliminate the need to pre-drill holes in wood and thin metal. Self-drilling screws use a pointed, drill bit-like end to punch through soft material. They are fully threaded when under 3" long. they come with various point styles (1 through 5 are the most common) eliminating the need for a pilot hole. Some can drill through a 1/2" of solid steel to attach a secondary sheet of metal together with the first. (When going through non-metal material, a pilot hole is still necessary.) We suggest a small pilot hole if joining two dissimilar types of metal to prevent the thinner sheet from riding up.
We stock over a many different head styles (round, truss, flat, oval, truss, pan, hex washer, just to name a few) with dozens of drive styles (Phillips, slotted, 6-lobe, star, Torx(R), square, pin-in, just to name some). They are often sold using the brand name Teks(R) and we can offer brand-name Teks(R) screws upon request.
These fasteners are available in steel, stainless, and selected sizes of aluminum from stock. Many more sizes and configurations are available. Including some sizes in various colors! Just ask your sales representative.
