What is the key to Dril-Flex? Similar parts are hardened to the same value throughout the fastener from top to bottom and surface to core. Dril-Flex screws, on the other hand, use the unique Flex® dual-hardening process. The point of the screw and the first few  threads are hardened to a minimum of Rockwell HRC 52. The load-bearing portion of the screw is held at, or below, the Rockwell HRC34 level. The Dril-Flex screw meets both SAE J429 Grade 5 and ASTM A449 strength and ductility standards.
